Appointments

Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.

Emergency & Urgent Care

We have a veterinarian and staff on duty 6 days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet has. Usually an emergency team consists of at least one veterinarian and several technicians working together to save a pet's life. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to call or come in immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a team member can advise you on your particular emergency.

We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment. Our veterinarians will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.

Microchipping
A permanent type of identification for your pet that involves inserting a small computer chip under their skin near their shoulder blades. Collars and tags may be lost but microchipping is permanent. Countless numbers of pets have been reunited with their owners by this method.

Nutritional Counseling & Consultations
Available for various needs in your pet's life, for example, growth, weight loss, dental disease prevention, aging and disease management.

Our doctors are available for consultations on any type of pet problem. We also have an extensive list of experts to refer an owner if the situation warrants.

Anesthetic Monitoring

All anesthetic procedures are monitored by trained veterinary technicians using monitoring devices such as: blood pressure, pulse oximetry (measures the amount of oxygen in the blood), respiratory monitors, and ecg

Ultrasonography

Although humans and animals are different in many ways, some advances in human medicine are also very useful for veterinary patients. One of these advances, diagnostic ultrasound, has proven to be a powerful tool in veterinary medicine.

As a practice, one of our goals is to offer state-of-the-art medicine and diagnostic testing; so we are pleased to offer ultrasound services as a means of providing a higher level of quality care to our patients.

Acupuncture

We are proud to offer dry needle (traditional) acupuncture as well as injectable.  Acupuncture is a traditional technique that stimulates the nerves in order to restore their functions to an optimal state. This practice is often performed with needles inserted into distinct points, but can also be performed with injections.
Acupuncture is indicated for functional problems such as those that involve paralysis, noninfectious inflammation (such as allergies), and pain. For small animals, the following are some of the general conditions which may be treated with acupuncture:
  • Musculoskeletal problems, such as arthritis, intervertebral disk disease, or traumatic nerve injury
  • Respiratory problems, such as feline asthma
  • Skin problems such as lick granulomas and allergic dermatitis
  • Gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea
  • Selected reproductive problems
Pets undergoing acupuncture can experience rapid pain relief from this approach.  We have seen canine and feline patients for acupuncture!

End-of-Life Care

As pet parents ourselves, the Oronoque Animal Hospital staff understand the decisions and emotions you may be facing as your pet ages. We treat end of life care with the utmost compassion and respect. We are here to help you assess your best friend’s quality of life and assist you in knowing when to move from general geriatric care to hospice care or if euthanasia is warranted. We emphasize the human-animal bond each step of the way, knowing you have spent a life time together.

End-of-life hospice care provides palliative treatment for pets with terminal illnesses or debilitation associated with advanced age. The goal of treatment is not to preserve the length of life but to preserve or improve the quality of life for both you and your pet and to ensure your pet is pain-free every step of the way.

We are here to guide you through this stage of life with your pet, providing compassion, answers, support, or a hug if that is what is needed.

Health Certification for Travel

We want everything to go as smoothly as possible when traveling, especially with our pets! It is important to know that there is a great deal of paperwork and a multitude of regulations to navigate when choosing to travel with a pet.  Please make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to research and plan prior to traveling since many requirements are time sensitive and require extensive paperwork and documentation. We cannot stress the importance of thorough planning enough.

The veterinarians at Oronoque Animal Hospital are accredited by the USDA to sign Health Certificates for your pets as you prepare them for domestic travel.
If you are taking your pet across the state, a health certificate is required. The health certificate, or Certificate of Veterinary Inspection, is an official document stating that your pet has been examined by a licensed, USDA-accredited veterinarian and has been found free of communicable diseases or parasites, as of the day the certificate is issued.

You will need a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection specific to the state of destination. This certificate can only be completed and signed by a federally-accredited veterinarian. When you return home, your veterinarian may recommend a follow-up examination to make sure that your pet did not pick up any diseases or parasites while traveling.
